the hidden consequences of ‘what I eat in a day’ videos
I get that these are posted for fun, or meal inspiration with harmless intentions so this is not an attack; more so to shed light on why they can be problematic.
Full day of eating style videos place a heavy responsibility on the shoulders of those who post them whether they realise or not.
These videos promote comparison and self-doubt, encouraging influential viewers to question their own dietary choices.
The content can cause distress & self-consciousness regarding food, which is especially dangerous for people who already live with a disordered relationship with their body.
Even for people who have a relatively healthy relationship with food, these videos can still be detrimental.
Exactly what/when/how someone else eats should have absolutely nothing to do with what you eat. You have no idea what is going on with someone else’s internal health (especially when it comes to women’s hormones).
Every single one of us has unique & individual needs due to our metabolism, nutritional requirements, taste, blood type and genetic makeup and all of our bodies react differently to various foods, habits, and the like so these videos can be really pointless.
Showing snacks, recipes, meal ideas etc is great. But the full day of eating including portion sizes, times & all sorts of other specifics need to stop.
Tuning into, trusting and exploring our own bodies needs should always come first, instead of being influenced in any other way.
